Can we all just be Americans today?

In honor of the victims of 9/11, I am refraining from participation in all discussions of American politics today. I recall the image of our elected representatives coming together, not as Democrats or Republicans, but as Americans, to sing "God Bless America" on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. Who will join me?
