What happened to Phil Hughes?

Ok so he was pitching 10-1 with a 3.11 ERA coming into tonight. Suddenly against the offensively low mariners, he gives up a season high 7 runs in less than 6 innings. Whats up with that. Do you guys think this happened because his start on Friday was skipped, or because he just had an off day like Pettitte last night?
