Can I prevent hereditary baldness?

My father started to lose his hair at the age of 18. Not all if it but the front half. It was completely gone by the age of 20. I am 17 years old & I can already not my hair line going further back through the sides. My mother told be the same exact thing happened to my father, and it's going to happen to me. Is there any possible way to prevent this? I just bought a 2-month supply of Rogain but I'm not really happy with just that.
